Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval storage.

Nov 1, 2022 | Announcements, Migration, MSP

Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval is long-term, secure, durable S3 object storage with milliseconds retrieval, for rarely accessed data, at the lowest storage cost. S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval is one of three Amazon S3 Glacier cloud storage classes built for archiving data at an extremely low cost. This archival cloud storage class became available on November 30, 2021, in all AWS Regions. It delivers the lowest cost storage for long-lived data.

“Long-lived data” refers to data that is rarely accessed, but requires milliseconds-retrieval. “Archived storage class” means that this data might be accessed only once per quarter.

Ideal use cases for the Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval cloud storage class are archiving rarely-needed data and specific data that require immediate access, like medical images, news media archives, or genomics data. S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval delivers the same low-latency and high-throughput performance as the S3 Standard and S3 Standard-IA storage classes, yet you can save up to 68% on storage costs.

Like all Amazon S3 Glacier classes, Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval allows you to archive large amounts of data at a very low cost. You pay only for what you need, with no minimum commitments or upfront fees. Another way to cost-optimize your storage.

To get started using the new storage class from the Amazon S3 console, upload an object as you would normally, and select the S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval storage class. Upload data directly into S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval through the Amazon S3 API, CLI, or use S3 Lifecycle to transition data from the S3 Standard and S3 Standard-1A storage classes into S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval, which supports all S3 Features.
