  • Explainability and Fairness: AI models, particularly those powered by deep learning, often operate as “black boxes,” meaning that their decision-making processes are not easily understood. This lack of explainability can lead to compliance challenges, as regulators increasingly require institutions to justify the decisions made by their AI systems. Additionally, the fairness of AI models is crucial in ensuring equitable treatment across all customers. Gebhardt discussed how unchecked AI models might reinforce biases, resulting in unequal access to services like credit or investment advice.
